Dear Friends in Christ,
More than ever it seems that each day brings huge changes and challenges to our lives. We hope everyone is personally safe and physically unaffected by this virus.
The cabinet has made the decision to cancel church services for the next two weeks in accordance with the recommendations from the CDC (to avoid gatherings of more than 10 people for the next 14 days). As much as joining together in faith at this time of uncertainty would bring comfort to us all, we need to consider the health of our members as a real priority. Not being able to physically be together does not mean that we can not join our hearts and worship faithfully. Pastor Rodger is planning to videotape the scriptures and morning messages. These will be made available online. (Instructions for finding these will be listed at the end of this message.) This is also an opportunity for all of us to strengthen our own personal relationships with God through devotion and prayer. There are many in our congregation, community, country and world who are definitely in need of our prayers. There are additional Upper Room Devotional booklets available if you don't have one. Pastor Rodger will also be posting a devotion from the UCC each day on FACEBOOK and now is a great time to continue (or make) a daily habit of reading our Bibles as well.
As another precaution, Pastor Rodger will not be visiting the people he normally would, but is available by phone and will be reaching out to those he would normally visit. If there is anyone who has additional needs or concerns during this time, or would like to talk, please feel free to call. The office will be open during normal office hours. 462-3796. We want to be there for you in any way we can.
Our biggest concern is, of course, meeting the spiritual needs of our church community. Let us reach out with love and support for each other in any way we can.
One consequence of cancelling church is that our income goes down, but most of our expenses continue. We saw the effects to our 2019 budget when we had to cancel church services on 2 different Sundays due to bad weather. We know that through this crisis many people's financial situations become uncertain and if you are in need because of loss of income and need something, please let us know! To those of our congregation who will not be financially strapped, please continue to donate to the church during this time. Perhaps some of us can even re-designate money that we would normally have used for entertainment or eating out to give to the church for its expenses and ministry.
At this time we are only cancelling services for March 22nd and 29th as well as the Lenten services which had already been cancelled. We will reevaluate after those two weeks to see when we can again meet as a congregation and will keep you informed.
Remember that during difficult times God is always with us, you are part of our church family, and we are here for you.
We will be broadcasting Lenten service and Sunday worship LIVE on Facebook tonight and Sunday. You can watch the services on our page at 7:00pm tonight and at 10:30am Sunday morning. The link to our facebook page is https://www.facebook.com/anamosaFCUCC
If you are not already a follower of our page please like the page.
Also, we will record the services and post them to the website at
